General
The cost varies depending on your pool's size, shape, and condition. A standard inground vinyl liner replacement typically ranges from $2,500 to $5,000 installed. Factors that affect pricing include pool size (surface area), pool shape (rectangle vs freeform), liner pattern and thickness, step configuration (inlet steps, swimouts, wedding cake), floor prep needed (sand vs pool crete), and wall repairs required. We provide free estimates with no obligation -- call us at (901) 461-1365 and we'll give you an honest number based on your specific pool.
Most vinyl pool liners last 8-12 years with proper care. Factors that affect lifespan include sun exposure (UV damage causes fading), chemical balance (improper chlorine levels damage vinyl), water level maintenance (too low = sun damage above waterline), climate (Memphis heat accelerates wear), and liner thickness (20 mil vs 27 mil vs 30 mil). If your liner is fading, wrinkling, or leaking, it's probably time for a replacement.
Most liner replacements are completed in 1-2 days. Here's the typical timeline: Day 1 Morning -- Drain the pool (3-6 hours depending on size). Day 1 Afternoon -- Remove old liner, inspect/repair walls, prep floor. Day 2 Morning -- Install new liner, fill pool, adjust and trim. Day 2 Afternoon -- Final checks, liner settling, handoff. The pool needs to be drained, the old liner removed, floor prepped, new liner installed, and then refilled. We'll give you a specific timeline when we come out for your estimate.
Spring and early summer (April through June) are the most popular times, but we install liners throughout the season. The ideal temperature range for installation is 55°F to 90°F. Too cold and the liner gets stiff and difficult to work with, with risk of cracking. Too hot and the liner becomes too stretchy, making it harder to prevent wrinkles. Pro tip: Schedule your liner replacement 2-3 weeks before you want to start swimming. This gives you time for the liner to settle and water chemistry to balance.
We work with Tara and Latham -- two of the top vinyl liner manufacturers in the country. You'll have hundreds of patterns to choose from: solid colors, tile borders and mosaic designs, stone and pebble patterns, modern geometric designs, and classic pool aesthetics. We'll bring pattern samples to your estimate so you can see them in person. Liner thickness options include 20 mil (standard residential), 27 mil (upgraded thickness), and 30 mil (heavy-duty, longer lifespan). All liners come with manufacturer warranties covering material defects.
Yes. Tara and Latham provide manufacturer warranties on their liners. Warranty length varies by liner grade and thickness. Covers material defects, seam failures, and premature fading under normal use. We also stand behind our workmanship -- proper measurement, floor prep, and installation are guaranteed. If there's an issue related to our installation, we'll make it right. We'll go over the specific warranty details when you choose your liner.
Common signs include fading and discoloration from sun damage, wrinkles that won't smooth out, cracks or tears especially at seams and corners, staining that won't come clean, and brittle or stiff areas where the vinyl has lost flexibility. You may also notice water loss beyond normal evaporation (more than 1/4 inch per day), the liner pulling away from the track, or a rough and sticky texture from chemical degradation. If your liner is 10+ years old and showing any of these signs, it's time for a replacement. Call us for a free estimate.
Yes -- and we're one of the few companies in Memphis that will. Wood wall pools need extra attention because the walls can deteriorate over time. Here's what we do: First, drain and inspect -- check for wall damage, bowing, soft spots, or rot. Then, repair or re-sheath -- patch minor damage with metal sheets, or re-sheath damaged sections with treated plywood. Finally, install new liner -- custom-fit liner installed over the repaired structure. Wood wall pools are tricky. Many companies won't touch them. We specialize in these kinds of repairs. Common wood wall issues we fix: waterlogged or bowing walls, collapsed sections (from ground pressure or water damage), missing or damaged concrete collars, and structural failures when pool is drained. If you have a wood wall pool and need help, call us. We've seen it all.
Yes, the pool needs to be fully drained. We handle the draining process as part of the installation. Here's what happens: We drain the pool using a submersible pump (takes 3-6 hours depending on size). Remove the old liner and dispose of it. Inspect walls and floor for damage. Prep the floor with sand or pool crete (vermiculite). Install the new liner and secure it in the bead receiver track. Fill the pool (you handle the water fill, or we can coordinate). Final adjustments as the liner settles under water weight. Important: Never leave a vinyl pool drained for more than a few days, especially wood wall pools. The walls lose support and can shift or collapse.
